Vulvar Abnormalities

What is Vulvar Abnormalities?

Vulvar abnormalities are changes or abnormalities in the external female genitalia, which include the labia, clitoris, and vaginal opening. These abnormalities may be caused by a variety of factors, including infections, skin conditions, hormonal changes, and tumors.

Common symptoms of Vulvar Abnormalities

Some common vulvar abnormalities include itching, burning, or pain in the vulva, abnormal discharge, changes in skin color or texture, and the presence of bumps or lesions. These symptoms may be caused by a variety of conditions, including yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis, sexually transmitted infections, or skin conditions such as lichen sclerosus or lichen planus.

Diagnosis of vulvar abnormalities typically involves a physical examination, which may include a biopsy to determine the underlying cause of the symptoms. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause of the abnormality, and may include medication, surgery, or other interventions.

Treatment of Vulvar Abnormalities

Prevention is key to avoiding vulvar abnormalities. Women can reduce their risk by practicing safe sex, maintaining good hygiene, avoiding irritants such as perfumed products, and wearing breathable cotton underwear.
